John, I experienced this on two different SX-100's.
The first one was a simple fix, but believe it or not a challenge to find. It
was imperceptible, but the set screw on the bandspread tuning dial was loose. A
simple tightening of the set screw was all it took. When first observed it, it
did not look loose so I passed over it.....From now on I always tighten those
screws when working on a new project....
The second SX-100 was actual slack in the steel dial cord. I chose to replace it
as it was also fraying. I found the steel "string" at a local craft supply
store. The steel string is used to make beaded bracelets or necklaces. They had
varying sizes of the cord and they also sold the necessary clamps to clamp the
string ends. Very tiny of course. That worked out well and it was not that
difficult to replace as the manual shows how to re-string the dial cords.
Watch also for dial shaft looseness on the wear points.
