Any radio that I consider valuable or historic and want to actually use as
compared to stare at, gets the caps all restuffed. Resistors are replaced
with NOS carbons of the same appearance and new values painted on when
necessary to use a few that have drifted out of tolerance. In some cases
such as very early National gear Ive replicated the originals.
Doing it that way is time consuming but the performance results and
preservation are well worth it. I certainly wouldnt waste my time on a low
cost or high volume set which would cover from a S-38 to SX-28. I did
restuff the SX-9, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 23 as those are sufficiently rare
enough for the effort. Im not interested in owning other early models just
to stare at as most are useless to operate.
