Guys:
Several months ago, I bought an SX-62 at a hamfest. You folks were very helpful in assisting me in diagnosing why this receiver would not work (shorted output xformer). I want to thank you again.
Since then, I have replaced the output xformer and all the electrolytics and wax caps (except for the three caps with braided leads in the RF section). The set sounds really good is remarkably sensitive on the SW bands.
More than half of the 1/2W resistors had drifted more than 20% above their rated value. The higher wattage resistors seem to have fared better. All the wax caps were leaky to one degree or another.
I have a few more questions:
1. Any ideas on removing a few paint drips from an R-46 speaker without ruining the finish? (Why do so many boatanchors have paint splatters on them?!?!?)
2. What are everyone's thoughts on removing the IF xformers to replace the caps inside? Is it necessary as a routine part of a restoration? What are the mechanics of removing these xformers? Is it possible to remove the can only and leave the xformer and leads intact (as you can with a BC-779)?
3. I use a single-lead antenna for BCB and SW. I want to use a twin-lead rabbit ears antenna for FM. Is there any way to hook them both up or do I have to switch antennas when I switch from BCB/SW to FM and vice-versa? I want nice FM reception but also don't want to lose an sensitivity on the BCB/SW bands.
4. I still have to tackle the crystal oscillator, which does not seem to be working, so I may be back with more questions.
As always, thank you for your assistance.
