Guess I'll chime in on this Walt. I think the HT-37 is one of the
finest ham transmitters made, it sounds great on sideband and AM and
with the exception of the fragile power transformer is rugged and easy
to work on. I know that Bob Heil K9EID loves his and just heard him on
the air with it today, and nobody knows more about good-sounding audio!
But Hallicrafters sold lots of them, and supply vs. demand dictates the
price today. In the Chicago area, hamfest price is probably about $150
for one in average cosmetic shape.. I've seen plenty of them sell for
half that, and the rare one that's really nice might bring twice that
but it'll take time to find the right seller. For non-rare radios like
this, cosmetics are about the only thing that will command a premium
price. So, if you bought it to make money on I'm afraid you'll be
close to break-even, but if you want a solid good-sounding vintage
transmitter, you've got yourself a classic.
