Carl, one of the guys hanging around with us at NEAR-Fest has one we
can have Jay run through its paces at some point. He got it from the
same seller a few years back and relayed to me the hassles he had
removing excess oil from the air variables along with aligning the
high bands to the point where they actually worked. He paid a lot of
money for it and expected it to be in top condition when received.
Wish I'd thought to mention it to him while you were standing there,
he'd have gone off like a firecracker. :D

Halli made some very nice stuff, generally discovered from actual use
rather than reading old ads. Hype is hype, and the promotion for the
SX-88 is no exception. Until the posting on 'fone last year I was
never aware that Litz wire made a good or mediocre receiver into the
best. Also wasn't aware that it was so rare. Then again, if it really
was such a great piece of equipment, price alone wouldn't have kept it
from selling better. The 75A-4 came out around the same time for a
similar price and did quite well in comparison.

I know a guy with several SX-73s and hope to get one from him sometime
in the future. It's one of the Halli rigs I'd really enjoy getting to
play with.
