Yes - even though it was Hallicrafters making the call, I strongly
doubt they'd base anything on leakage since it can vary greatly at the
time of assembly as well as a year or so down the road.

I'm with you, Carl: for that price, any self-respecting 'restorer'
expecting big bucks would restuff the original caps for that look of
authenticity with the performance of improved technology. Then again,
many collectors base their requirements on things other than
originality. In the case of the SX-88, it's more a case of 'gotta have
one'.

For those looking for actual performance while still enjoying a
classic tube rig, it's tough to beat the trusty R-390 or -390A. Leaves
the SX-88 in the dust, and sounds as good or better when the audio is
plucked off the diode load connection and run through a decent HiFi
amp circuit to a good speaker. Even at a 'collector' price, you could
do it and pocket several grand of the current bid. It's just not as
purty. (o:
