Scott:

Yes, I was up at Mark Olson's QTH in Suamico, WI just last year picking up
some stuff from Jim's estate and this may be where I learned of the fate
of the remaining stock of belts. I talked to Jim at Dayton about the belts
several years ago and he told us of his close friendship with a Dayco
Company engineer whos diligent efforts resulted in getting those belts
reproduced. It was sure good while they lasted. By the way, the photo Mark Olson
posted at his QTH bio sure fits doesn't it... hi hi!!

You might try KE9PQ just to see if he knows - he handled most of Jim's
estate stuff, and might be able to confirm if he ever had them, or sold
them,
just in case. I know Jim had several very near the time of his passing,
as
he gave me one. Getting them made was a non-trivial exercise, but Jim's
forte was making stuff like that happen. 73 Scott

Yep, They were made for Jim at Dayco. Was it 200? I thought he told me
100
but I could be mistaken. Jim managed to sell nearly all of them except
for
a small stash he held toward the end. I believe Chuck Groome in Paris TX
now has those remaining few and I don't know how he managed to get them.

Hey guys,

A little bit of trivia on the SX88 belt saga. Jim Jorgenson K9RJ, rest
his
soul, had new belts made. I know because I bought two of them. One I
installed in my SX88. The other I stored inside the radio for safe
keeping.
It went with the radio when I sold it several years ago. Jim had 200 of
these made. Where all of them are now I have no idea.

Ed, KØBKA

Reproduction parts of good quality are a problem to manufacture. Take
the belt used in the SX-88, for instance. I've heard second hand that
one collector tried to find these belts and talked with an engineer at
the company that made the original ones. The sad part is that the
company had cleaned out not too long before and disposed of the molds
needed to create more of the unique belt. The even more sad part is
that to recreate the mold and do a modest production run was going to
cost many thousands of dollars. With only one hundred fifty known
radios, the market is very small and the price to produce per belt
would be very high.
