[Hallicrafters] S-40B Tuning Cap

I'm fixing up this hamfest special. The tuning cap fins in the rear gang are bent, causing reception to cut out on the lowest part of the dial. I haven't been able to straighten them.

I located a replacement cap and intend to install that. Any tips or suggestions of things to watch out for? I have never had to replace a tuning cap so I'm looking for some preventive guidance!

Also, any tips on how to straighten the bent fins. I'm not adverse to repairing the current cap if that's possible. Visually, everything looks straight. However, it is shorting out on the lower part of the bank (one Band 1, it shorts out at and below 700 khz).
