I've heard about the ZVS diodes, too.  Story is that they work really well. 
I guess I'm buried in the past though
My last iteration was a recreation of the one I built for Cub Scouts in 
1951 - made the cat's whisker out of a safety pin, and it used a pair of 
Telephonics earphones (not headsets) which came out of my Uncle's PBY 
Catalina, that flew with the Black Cats in the PI, during WW-II.   Why yes, 
the radio AND earphones still work.
