[Hallicrafters] HT-44 Output Problem

Hello Hallicrafters experts. I'm having a problem with my HT-44 transmitter. I'd appreciate your advice. 

The output from the transmitter is fine at the high frequency end of each band but drops off to almost nothing as the VFO approaches the low end of the band. This is the case regardless of whether I'm using the SX-117 or the HT-44 for the VFO and mixer osc. I suspect the 6.0 to 6.5 Mhz IF is miss alligned but before I get out all of the test equipment to do the alignment procedure, I was hoping that someone might either confirm my suspicion or point me in a more appropriate direction.
