[Hallicrafters] SX-88 Huh? Whut?

I posted two questions on the sx-88
one being the value in $ and that has been answered
the second one was a bit wishy washy but what I was looking for
is aside from how "rare" the sx-88 is, what makes it unique/special.
By special I generally think of its engineering/features/performance.
The latter part has been answered as well with quite a bit of passion.
