But being a communications vs entertainment receiver, it lacks the
push-pull output to drive a decent speaker (same as the R-390A). It's
always been a dilemma, one I've overcome by owning several receivers.
Love the SP-600 and early SP-100/200 in the black wrinkle variety. For
high performance and versatility, I go to the R-390 and A, which can
be made better audio-wise by driving an outboard audio amp from the
diode load. For general entertainment listening and best looks in my
opinion, the SX-28A is tough to beat. Looks great, p/p audio, and has
the same smooth flywheel tuning the SP-600 offers. SX-62B has the best
looking dial to me with the copious amounts of labeling and
band-in-use lighting. A true Cold War/retro look.

Hope no one takes my words wrong: I'd LOVE to own and use a SX-88, it
just goes against my grain financially when so many other nice rigs
exist for far less. Wouldn't pay $25K for a KW-1 either, despite the
quality. You can just buy or build so much more for so much less.
