I've never seen an SX-25 with the 4-coil arrangement in the radio, on Band One. I have seen several SX-25's, including early/middle/late.

My best SWAG-method approximation: They may have designed the radio, initially, to use 2 RF stages on Band 1, e.g. 4 coils; but the bean counters found a way to make it cheaper... hmm. And, as for the manual.... perhaps some of those Halli tech writers later went to work for Aerotron, whose two-way comm gear manuals often contained errors that went uncorrected for years (if ever!).
