Lots of value is determined by the cosmetic condition. If it is working,  
all the better, but the insides are usually not that much of a challenge for 
an  experienced restorer as long as things like the power transformer, 
dials, meter,  etc. are in good shape. Also, the dial lock must be present and 
the shaft not  broken. That being said, the receiver is worth between $250 and 
$350. If  the speaker is an R-42, and is as previously stated, figure $100 
- $175. If your  friend should happen to have the tilt base and all it's 
parts, that alone is  worth $300 and up.
