[Hallicrafters] Carolina Windom

I have used the Radioworks Windom 80 for about 10 years. I have it mounted as an inverted V with the peak at 50 feet, about 150 degrees between the legs, and the ends mounted at least 10 feet off the ground. I am using an old Rohn telescoping steel mast for the center support, so I had to make sure that the vertical radiator is offset so that it is at least 15 feet away from the mast so that the mast doesn't interfere with the radiation pattern of the antenna. Other than taking it down once a year to check the connections and coax-seal, I have had to do nothing to it. It is a great antenna!! I have used it with a Kenwood TS-520S, an Icom 706 MKIIG, an Icom 746 Pro, and most recently with an Icom 756 Pro III, all with an antenna tuner. I have worked over 200 countries on SSB with no more than 100 watts. I also have found it to be a decent MW and SWL antenna when used with my Hammarlund HQ-180A and Collins R-390A receivers.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Best 73,
Gary

Not yet. I have a Radio Works Carolina Windom 80 Special here and it's
now warm enough for me to put it up. Sort of a shortened normal 80
meter one. Look up their web site for details and claims. Some
points I remember:
- The piece of coax between the "special matching device" and the
choke balun is 75 ohms.
- That matchng coax section really should be held vertical for the
whole thing to work... current on the outside of that piece of coax is
part of what makes it work.
- minimum suggested height is 30 feet.
Those guys may sell you the right matching device (at the feed point
of the horizontal wire) and the choke balun.
