[Hallicrafters] SX-73/R-274 Alignment?

Hi Rock,
Congrats on getting one of the nicest. I like it as much, and in some
ways more, than the SP-600. Yes, it definitely is built differently, more
mil-type, but it was designed/reconfigured some yrs after the SP-600. Both
are to the same specs, just widely diferent implementations. I got my first
4 yrs ago, I've got ~3 pgs of shop notes on it which I scanned & can fwd to
you if you'd like. 1 pg is on the differences between it & the SP-600. The
others are notes I made as I got into it, you'll have to follow trhu to see
what I suspected & what really was, to some extent.
I replaced all the bathtub caps, most were slightly leaky when ckd with
the megger. It appears to me that the AVC is active on CW, it's derived in
a way to avoid the BFO blocking it, IIRC. Don't think I saw any gotchas in
there. P.S. filter cap was bad. It did benefit from a good alignment.
Note that the S-mtr essentially has a "squelch", doesn't register until thte
AVC voltages reaches a certain value.
I regret to say that I haven't used it a lot, did plan to put it in
place of the "shop" SP-600, but have not yet gotten a round tuit.
I didn't get on fone CX, and probably won't for CW this wkend, there's a
local fest, might get on in the evening a bit, will look for you if 40 is
open to your coast then. Not sure what I'd be using, maybe just 1 rig, for
the short time available.
