Not sure if you're using the generic term "BA" for boatanchors or for the
old Burstein-Applebee. I'm the guy who used to be with them, so if any of
you have REAL stories about them (BA); good or bad; send 'em to WØEAJ.
Associated Radio in Overland Park, KS (79th. & Conser) STILL carries some
older gear, although frequently the prices are UP THERE. I suspect they're
posted as such, to allow folks to haggle with them (isn't that part of being
a ham?) on the ultimate price. Having known AR for many, many years, I can
assure you that they take care of their customers, IF their customers take
care of them.
In that vein however, most "ham" stores DO NOT service what they sell
anymore. Some will replace a defective NEW radio with another; some will
simply advise the buyer to SEND it in for service, to the appropriate
factory. (my experience with that ALI*** company is that they WON'T work on
their own stuff - new OR otherwise). If you can't fix your own, there are a
couple of good places to get it done - email me for recommendations (this is
not the place). OR, just get glow-in-the-dark stuff with a big "h" on the
front - you can ALWAYS fix that.
