I worked at UPS in Northern NJ as on unloader for a while when in college in the 80s.  It is useless to mark items as "Fragile" or some such thing because nobody has time to read the packages they are unloading or loading.  I never saw a package subject to a fall of more than a few feet.  I never saw anybody play football, hockey, or any other sport with the packages; there wasn't enough time for that because we had to keep our throughput up or a supervisor would give us a little talk.
