[Hallicrafters] Chassis Rust

Although this post does not pertain to a specific Hallicrafters radio I hope a list member may be of assistance.

I have acquired a RCA ACR-175 receiver with a badly rusted chassis, tuning capacitor frame, and power transformer case.  Short of  striping the chassis of parts and then replating I'd be interested in comments from those who have faced a similar problem and how you accomplished your restoration.  I have photos for those who who wish them.
