Indeed.  Most alignment instructions include the points of using just  
enough injected signal to keep the stages in linear range, and also  
to reduce the generator output as the alignment proceeds.

The signal generator (AM, 30 percent modulation) should produce a  
half watt or less of audio with the audio gain FULL up.

If you are using the detector output as an indicator, keep it low -  
certainly below 4 or 5 volts and better yet a volt or so.

The SX-100 manual calls for one volt or less at what I presume is the  
detector output.  It also says to remove the first mixer oscillator  
tube to avoid signal interference.
