Depends upon what kind of parts you need and whether you are restoring
function or appearance with regard to originality or without regard to
originality. There is no one correct answer to this and attempting to discuss the
subject often results in a heated a stand-off with sharp disagreement.
Some introspect into the situation at hand might point to the best direction
to pursue depending upon your own personal take on the subject. For example;
if you have an SX-100 with a burned screen or plate dropping resistor and
leaky coupling caps almost no one would disagree if you ordered modern
replacements from Mouser to get it up and running again to resume band cruising with
an old American classic.
But what if you had a Zenith Stratosphere easily worth over $50,000 needing
those same repairs? Do you automatically call and order orange drops or
miniature yellow plastic axial poly's from China without thinking about it first?
