Permission from whom? NRI went out of business a LONG time ago, I
would think.

What *might* be uwise is to make money, lots of money in particular,
from copying and selling the material. I'd think that the market for
such would not let you make too much!

What's copyrighted and what's not and how to behave with all that is a
common topic for discussion on lists such as this one. Here is my
only real experience with the problem:

I took a technical manual into a Kinko's one day to get the thing
copied. The manager discovered language on one of the front pages
something like the following, and refused to copy it:

"Reproduction or release of this manual to personnel other than those
in the U.S. Armed forces directly involved in and authorized to
perform operation and maintenance of this equipment must be authorized
in writing by the promulgator of the manual."

The manual had been printed in 1948 for a radio that used octal tubes.

I made a note to never go back to Kinkos, or at least never go back
with a manual having such words in it.
