Hello to the Hallicrafters Group,
This still young year started with the aquisition of my first Hallicrafters
receiver,- a badly beaten S22R.
Bits and piece are missing. As I am new to this all, I kindly ask for
assistance in the following matters:
The band spread dial is missing. Does anyone have a spare one for sale or a
digitized template that I can share?
I am also missing the loudspeaker for the S22R. What would be a good
replacement for that and where can I obtain it?
I have no high-res pictures or drawings of the inside and outside of a fully
restored and working S22R. For instance how does a dial-lamp holder look
like?
Mine are missing too.
Likewise the bottom panel is lost and in need of a replacement.
The central tuning knob is missing,- has anyone a spare one?
Cosmetically the case of the S22R is in good shape. A few scratches,- but
nothing serious.
The Perspex is missing on both dials. A replacement for that can be found by
using GE's clear "Lexan", 1mm in thickness.
Getting the fine reading line on or rather into the material can be done as
follows.
Scratch with a needle a fine line into the Lexan. "Fill it up" with a black
permanent marker. Let it dry for a minute or so.
Then rub repeatedly with your finger over it an apply high pressure. By
creating warmth this way, the black marker comes off,- left and right of the
scratch.
I fine black reading line remains. It really looks very professional
afterwards. Anybody who is in need of small bits of Lexan for such purposes
please contact me.
Letters can be applied by using so called "transfer foil",- your local
photo-copy shop should be able to help there. It works in a way as the old
lettraset rub-on letters.
A new 220V power supply has been added as well as solid state rectifiers.
The underside of the receiver with its caps and resistors seems to be a
mess. It appears re-wiring is needed,- but this remains to be seen after
carefull inspection next weekend.
Any help on this project is appreciated. Thank you.
Wishing you all a good day.
Greetings from Kempen, Germany.
Michael Starke
