Hi Gene,

For what it's worth, I have the AC/DC version of that receiver, i.e. the
S-77A...

I got it back in '69 when I had just turned 17, and it was my "Elmer" as I
progressed through BC SWL'ing, listening to Hams on AM on 10-meters (1969-70
was a FB time for sunspots), and finally, copying CW & getting my Ham ticket
in 1971...

Indeed, I never retired the OB until 1984, when the Japanese invaded my
shoreline with a brand new Yaesu FT-980...

In the interim, though --- thanks to the S-77A & a LOT of HB
peripherals! --- I achieved DXCC (CW, and SSB), WAC, WAC 80-meters, WAS,
RCC, and was first in Ontario Division in several ARRL contests.

It really earned its keep here...and the fact that it was AC/DC with a
"polarized" plug taught me really REALLY quickly that electricity was
something to be treated with a LOT of respect...! Hi Hi
