Most of us would not understand the passion for collecting something
different from our own interests. Most of the fun for collectors of anything lies in
the "thrill of the chase" for something thought to be scarce or not usually
attainable. Networking contacts, diligently searching the usual and not so
usual sources and doing all the detective work chasing down elusive leads for
something which was expected to be thrown out and long gone for many years. A
similar example can be found in the old car hobby where collectors try to
assemble all the original tags and labels that came with a particular car from
the factory. It's an attempt to turn back the clock and experience in a
different time what a buyer may have had with a particular item in its day. Look at
old baseball cards. The value lies in the fact that so few have survived.
Supply and demand.
