[Hallicrafters] ASTRON supplies

Another data point..points.

I purchased a RS 35M. The voltage was near the limit on the meter, but
that is still within to stated tolerance. After about 15 minutes of use
it kicked out. After that It would only kick on and off. As it was just
out of the box the dealer replaced it. This one ran well...for several
hours until the fan kicked on. It sounded like a motor boat. A quick
check showed nothing stuck in the fan. I removed it and found that when
rotating the fan back and fourth the blades were catching on
"something", but I could slide a piece of paper all around the blades so
it's inside the motor housing. I called Astron and they said they'd get
a new fan out to me right away. That was over a month ago.

I have a lot of 12V fans for computers that will fit, so replacing the
fan is no biggie, but two in a row and the replacement must be on its
way by courier doesn't bode well.

Of course I ordered the RS35M to use while my 50 amp, conventional
supply was out of service. (Not their fault there) I welded a grounding
strap to one of the transistors. The transistor was not quite up to the
task. Although not necessary, I replaced all of the 2N3771s with a set
with higher ratings. (2N5686)
