Well, corresponding with a fellow from another forum, we have determined
that there are two versions of the chassis and cabinet for the SX-23. The
earlier version of the chassis (which mine is) has only a half inch lip on
the front edge of the chassis where the mounting screws from the fron panel
thread into. It also has brackets for a small pulley and a trimmer cap
welded to the back of the front panel. The later chassis has a full 4 inch
front apron on the chassis and the aformentioned brackets are welded to the
back of the apron. The older cabinet rear opening is too narrow by about an
inch to allow the chassis to slide out the back whereas the new cabinet
opening is increased enough to allow the chassis to be removed from the
rear. I am now pretty convinced that final wiring of the chassis, including
the mounting and wiring of the bandswitch was done AFTER the chassis was
mounted into the cabinet in my radio. The arrangement was bad enough to
prompt a redesign. My serial number is H-89057 and the chassis is tagged
with a signed paper inspection tag stamped April 10, 1939. The other fellows
serial number is H-93416 ( a second fellow said his was H-93392 and also has
the newer style chassis/cabinet).
