Why not just spray it with a "fixative" of some sort??? Clear Krylon or
something similar.
I realize with your background you are very alert to issues of asbestos
handling. However why handle it, seal it up?
Put a warning label on it for the next person who ventures in there to know
not to disturb it.
If I had a dollar for every time I used my mother's vacuum to blow out brake
dust when putting on new linings I'd be able to buy a first class meal at an
expensive restaurant.
And, no I have no symptoms of respiratory problems...
