Shred it up and blow it around on those who actually believe that a one shot
or low level exposure can hurt them. More myths brought on by the
professional panic mongers, personal injury lawyers and useless politicians.
Long term mining, processing and sloppy installion/repair exposure will kill
you but not a tiny insulating panel that is left alone. If it bothers you
that much use a rattle can to paint it and not annoy some lab who will test
it, notify a lawyer who pays them a kickback, notify the media and have a
gaggle of bearded unwashed morons picketing your house.
My father in law worked in the steam pipe tunnels under Harvard University
for over 40 years. Loaded with asbestos covered pipes yet he died of happy
old age at 89.
I worked in old mill buildings throughout New England, including National
Radio, with exposed asbestos covered pipes everywhere. I also spent 4 years
in the Navy aboard oil fired ships which used asbestos covered pipes
everywhere a steam or hot water pipe went throughout the ships. It wasnt
restricted to the engine room. My lungs are perfect.
When I bought this place it had asbestos shingles. The local munincipal
idiots wanted me to have a professional disposal company remove and dispose
of them at a huge cost. A complete racket. Asbestos shingles arent dangerous
unless powdered and breathed with a bag over your head. I removed, dug a
hole and buried them, end of problem. Told the building inspector to screw
off, never heard another peep. That was in 1989.
