[Hallicrafters] Too Big

Over this weekend I found and purchased a Hallicrafters S-38C
at a yard sale. Externally it almost looks like new. The previous
owner simply stated it stopped playing. The first thing I did was
to cut off the cracked power cord once I had it home. I'll change
the electrolytic capacitors towards the end of my S-38C rebuild.
>From there I started removing tubes for testing. My hands are
too big to reach into the radio and remove one of the tubes. I
attempted to disassemble the radio and found two nuts holding
the volume and band selector controls in place. All of my nut
drivers and sockets are also too big to fit through the holes in
the front panel.
Obviously Hallicrafters' assembly plant had some kind of tool
to tighten these nuts. Is there a "special" thin walled nut driver
for these nuts or am I missing something?
Thanks for your advise and or hints on disassembly.
