[Hallicrafters] BOATANCHOR HEAT REDUCTION

Rather than play with variacs or lossy cable to reduce AC line voltage, I
would recommend building a line bucker for all your boatanchors. The
circuit is simple, construction is easy, and you can make it as simple or as
complex as you desire (eg-one output voltage or several, depending on which
taps you use in the bucking transformer).

By judiciuos choice of transformer, you can lower the AC source from 120 and
up down to 105-110. Then you can replace the rectifier tube with diodes and
not worry about B+ which might become too high. The radios love the lower
AC line voltage-they operate just fine and they all run much cooler. I like
to think I have given my old radios a new lease on life by keeping the input
voltage down.

I have one line bucker capable of carrying 12 amps, and every BA I have in
my stations is plugged into it.
