If I understand correctly, it sounds like your
bandspread dial cord is strung wrong. The dial should
rotate from zero down to 100 as frequency drops. Not
from 100 straight to zero, and then back "up" to zero.
You probably have the cord wrapped around a shaft in
the wrong aspect. Look carefully at the stringing
diagram. You may have something "starting inside"
that should "start outside." This is difficult to
explain without pictures, but if the cord is
effectively wrapped backwards or in the wrong
direction, the dial will move backwards. I had the
same problem with another receiver, which came to me
like this, and it threw me for a few minutes till I
realized what must be going on. Sure enough, reversing
the wrap cured the problem.
