[Hallicrafters] SX-42 S-meter

Rich,

Use some basic ohms law and put a small voltage across it. First
disconnect the terminals, then using a DC power supply if you have one
(set at maybe 5 or 10 volts), if not a AA battery will work. Put a large
pot in series (maybe a 1 MEG) and connect it. Slowly turn the pot until
full scale indication is reached. Disconnect the pot and measure the
resistance if it. It will tell you (again using Ohms law, I=E/R) if the
full scale movement is correct and if it moves smoothly from resting to
full scale. Caution, be sure the max resistance is in series before
applying power, do not apply a voltage directly across a meter, it can
peg it and burn it up quickly.

Best,
DW Holtman
