Here's an update on my SX-101A (motorboating issue). 

I received a ton of responses. Several of them suggested backing off the
RF gain to see if the "problem" stopped or changed. I turned the rig on
Friday evening after I got home from work to let it warm up, figuring I
would play with it a bit and try some of the suggestions. 

Guess what? I couldn't make it do it anymore, or as my auto mechanic
says, I couldn't replicate the problem. 

Before you start telling me that it was probably externally generated, I
wasn't getting any interference on my other BA receivers including ones
with similar IF's like SX-96, SX-117 so I'm relatively certain it was
generated within the rig.

These problems generally don't "fix themselves" so I'll enjoy it until
the problem re-surfaces. Thanks for all the input and I'll let you know
if/when it returns and what it turns out to be.
