Beggin' your pardon - I've successfully WASHED 3 SX-62 & 62A dial glasses 
the black background, BEHIND THE GLASS, with NO problems.  Now, don't try 
that on 71's and other models, but the SX-62 is painted on, and after trying 
a place where I wasn't afraid to lose a tiny bit, and with no ill effects, I 
washed the dial glass... note, I said GLASS.     He IS correct, when he says 
don't clean the DIAL face it'self
