Please take a break from those weekend dulldrums and join us
on Sunday July 22nd for the HHI 20 meter Net. As for whomever
started that sign that is circulating hither, thither and
yon, reading: "If it ain't glowing, keep on rowing! As only
vintage rigs can dock here!" Well, while the Net is about
vintage Hallicrafters, and other vacuum tube rigs, we won't
know it isn't glowing if you do not vocally confess that you
are running the so called "rice box"! Everyone is welcome -

The Pre-Net commences at 12:45 PM EST/EDT, (1645 UTC). The
Net proper starts at 1:15 PM EST/EDT, (1715 UTC). The
frequency is 14.293 MHZ usb +/- for key clicks, mike splatter
and a horrific chatter in my background generated by a
deranged Red Headed Blue Beaked Woodpecker! For reasons
unknown, it has taken up residence at the seven foot level of
the Rhone 25-g tower three feet east of the Ham Shack wall.

Now it is common knowledge that these Titanium like billed
birds use their beaks to drill holes in wood while on a
Seek/Find/Devour a tasty bug mission. It is said that they
can hear the bug hiding inside the wood from quite a distance
if it so much as blinks an eye. Yet they seem to not hear
humans shouting threats upon their well being or choice of
residence! How do they just happen to know that somebody who
is a member of Bird Watchers of America is your next door
neighbor? With that incredible bird buffet nextdoor to dip
and dine in, why is this jackhammer with wings making the
aluminum siding on my house look like it was a spaghetti
strainer?

Everytime one of those brain dead Black Birds parks its
feathered rump on my Mosley TA-33, I key up, it gets RF
baked, does a beak dive for the grass below, hits the sod
with all the grace of an Elephant on figure skates that trips
... My front yard fills up with enraged bird lovers each
carrying a sign saying "Four and twenty Black Birds baked by
this guy, let's bake this Ham and hang him from the sky!" The
police show up, the fire department hoses the bird loving
trespassers down, some Pepper Spray sends them fleeing to
their vehicles, as well as kills all of my shrubs, and
central dispatch sends Animal Control out to retreive the
dead Black Bird stuck in my grass beak first!

I hope to hear many of you tomorrow. As for the fate of that
Red Headed Blue Beked Woodpecker? Ask the Editors at QST who
loved the story, but the top management would not let them
print it! Absolutely true.
