This is exactly my point, Jim. And Greg, I appreciate and respect your
view from the side more in tune with collections and collecting.
Different strokes, as they say. I definitely factor in the financial
aspect into every purchase I make. Quite simply, if it's more than I'm
comfortable with or willing to pay, I don't buy it. That covers all
future issues, investment or otherwise.
I'm in favor of a free market, and also understand that ebay is a good
place to get max dollars but is also just another tool at our
disposal. I work for a living too, and never had the big bucks to
throw at any old radio. I did have something known as resourcefulness,
and put it to good use over the years.
It all comes down to whatever each individual is comfortable with. And
honestly, there will always be a home for scarce/rare/unusual items
out there. But for the most part - in another decade or two, how many
will care?
You can easily put it into investment terms: never invest more than
you can afford to lose.
Enjoy the hobby, the people, the equipment, the experience. In my
opinion, that is where the true value lies.
