It certainly pays to look elsewhere, anywhere other than ebay if you
don't want to pay someone's idea of a collector price. W1RC witnessed
a guy walking out of the Rochester, NY hamfest a couple years ago with
a TMC GPR-92 that he paid a whopping $5 for. I got a nice Clegg
Interceptor B at the Hosstraders fest two years ago for $150 or so,
when they were bringing $500+ on ebay.
Two good things to keep in mind with respect to prices: most people
look at old radio gear the same way they look at an old toaster,
microwave oven, etc: old appliance that needs tossing, not worth their
time. And second, we're the ones who assign high values to things
because we think they're worth it.
I'd love to have a nice SX-23 someday. It's a slick looking rig. I
know of one for sale around $3K, well out of my price range and
apparently even the ebay bidders' range. Most seem to bring $300-$500
in decent shape.
Did you see any at Dayton, John?
