[Hallicrafters] HT33B HV transformer problem

Resistance checking will not tell you much - a better way to check for a
shorted turn in a power transformer is as follows:

Remove all loads from secondary.
Put a 60 watt light bulb in series with a power cord that you will plug
into 120 vac. The idea is to limit current for this test. You know you
have this hi-tech piece of test equipment working correctly if the bulb
lights up when you short the two wires together! Connect these two
wires to the primary of your transformer under test. If the bulb lights
brightly you have a shorted primary. With a good transformer WITH NO
LOADS CONNECTED TO SECONDARY the bulb should not glow or may glow very
dimly. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND DO NOT HAVE ANY
EXPERIENCE WITH TUBED GEAR AND THE HIGH VOLTAGES USED, PLEASE GET HELP
FROM SOMEONE THAT DOES. YOU CAN BE KILLED IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU
ARE DOING.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] HT33B HV transformer problem

Hi guys. My buddy has an HT33B. We suspect that there is a short in the
HV
transformer primary winding. Is anybody in a position to measure the DC
resistance of a known-to-be-good transformer primary? That would help us
confirm our suspicions. Thanks very much for any help.
