Hi again Don:
I answered your note at 3:30 or so last night ---- wrong time to think.  I somehow interpreted your note to indicate that you did not like the transmit tone.  Your assessment is correct.  The SR-400A uses the upper sideband crystal for CW carrier and BFO --- same frequency.  You have no choice but to tune to the side.  Over the years, I have not seen any notes or bulletins indicating that there would be a change to resolve this issue.  I have the original assessment notes and wish list regarding the SR-2000 before it was released to the field and no participant spoke of the CW issue.  The SR-400, SR-400A, and SR-2000 are all designed the same way.  You could use the RIT control by zeroing the receive signal and then switching RIT on and adjusting it for pitch.  That would synchronize your transmit frequency with the received signal.  Also, there would be no need to change the settings when tuning other CW stations.   Kindest regards Jim K9AXN
