I don't know. 

 My father had one version back in the late 50s which had the plain knobs. 
Once I got into collecting, I discovered the skirted version. This is the one 
that Dachis has pictured in his book. I know that the knobs were not changed on 
my father's set since it was new in the box and I was there when he bought it 
from Freck Radio and Supply Company in Asheville, NC. It didn't take long 
before it found its way into my shack.
