Fischer-man,
Such a delightful tome of contemporary wit. Actually, it has to do with the
increased surface-area, i.e. wrinkle vs. linear application of the coating
(painter's term - they never say paint). Also, not to be discounted in the
vast cosmosian expanse of such discussions is the ability of a wrinkled
surface to radiate more thermal energy than say, one of a flat-plate
application. THUS - when we say a color is "hot", you know from whence the
expression originated.
Thus it follows that as in hollywierd personalities, straight is not always
as it appears to be, and the surface more wrinkled, is the one that appears
to have more credence - which of course, brings us to the subject of
"relative grey" or is it "relative's, gray". Back in my video daze in 1971,
I was instructed by learn-ed sages of the art, that there are indeed, 10
shades of grey - or was it gray (spelling of the term, vs. a proper name),
thus one's grey or gray varies by the decimal extraction of a tenth, when
upon applicating (coinage, there) the required shade, with anticipation that
one's finish grey will be one's beginning grey.
In conclusion: Beauty IS as beauty DOES, which is why we do NOT drink the
paint, nor inhale the vapours - especially near open flames, for we wish NOT
to make an ash of ourselves.
