[Hallicrafters] SX-117 BFO Freq. Adjustment

I use my SX-117 in slaved mode with my HT-44. I have been having
trouble with frequency stability in transmitting so I am making
calibration adjustments to my SX-117. In following the procedure for
the BFO Frequency Adjustment (Section 6-11) I find that after removing
the BFO control knob (step a.) and try turning the BFO slug (accessible
through the center of the control knob) I find that I cannot turn the
slug independently of the control knob shaft - as if the two are
"frozen" together. I am tempted to try a little liquid wrench to try
to free the two shafts - are there any other suggestions? Thanks.

Regarding the HT-44, I replaced several tubes and then tried adjusting
the Bias Adjustment on the output tubes. I can't get the 100 ma idling
current for the final tubes. Any comments about this would also be
welcome.

Thanks.
