I most certainly would not use any abrasive on stainless unless it is to
remove a scratch that you can feel with a fingernail. In that case start
with 600 grit wet and work your way to 1500 or 2000. Finish off with a
proper buffing compound and wheel. If it is just surface marks then it can
be buffed out.
Ive restored many unobtanium automotive and electronic stainless trim items
and it certainly does take patience.
Eastwoods is a one stop source for materials altho a bit pricey.
