Wow, that's funny.  I worked for the company that developed and sold the machinery and processes to the Soviets to produce a calculator in the early 70's.  We got into the market too late to be competitive in US.  It was General Instraments in Post Falls Id.  
We developed the calculator for the Victor brand.  High quality keys and case but outdated as soon as it was introduced.  Employee price was $45.00 retail around $100.00.  I don't think any sold.  The Russians really bailed us out by buying the whole works.  A couple of employees got to go to the USSR to set it up.  A big deal at that time.
