[Hallicrafters] Strange issue with my S-38A

I did put a new plug on there. The other one was less than desirable for
use.

I did find a website that had a schematic and where to solder the plug.
But when I opened it up it was connected to two points on a tube socket
and didn't really match that schematic. I used a meter to see which side
is which and traced it back and I am pretty confident I hooked it up
right. 

Others have said I need to switch BFO on or off. I am a total noob to
this but the switches I have are AM/CW, Speaker/Phones, and
Receive/Standby. Is it located somewhere else?
