I have just acquired an SX-28A which looks complete and is even
accompanied by a complete set of orange drop capacitors to replace
those oldies in the radio,
I have worked on these radios and am quite familiar with them but I do
have one question.
This one is in quite good condition with no visible rust or corrosion.
However it is very dirty and I am wondering if anyone out there has any
good ideas as to how to clean it up. Working on Collins R-390 radios in
the past I have used the simple green/garden hose/distilled water
method but I am not sure the SX-28 will stand up to such treatment as
the construction and components are not up to Collins Standards.
For many years I owned a really nice SX-28A but it was stolen from my
house in Texas many years ago. I have always wanted another but have
been unable to find a restorable one at a reasonable price. When I was
a teenager and beginning ham in Australia just prior to WW2 I always
wanted one of these.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
