Congratulations on the HT-40. I owned one years ago and it was one of the
best li'l rigs Ive ever had the pleasure of using. I am almost embarrassed
to suggest the obvious but I went through a similar thing with a Johnson
Adventurer. Don't overlook the crystal, the crystal socket OR THE PINS ON
THE CRYSTAL! (No kidding). I discovered , after re-capping that my chirp was
being introduced by the 0.092 ferrule placed on the pins of my HC-6/U
crystal. It was crimped tight enough and caused the chirp. Another rig gave
me the same problem and I had to change out the crystal socket itself. I
suppose wear, corrosion, finger oils etc can put a coating on the crystal to
pin contact and act like a capacitor itself. Good luck and we will be
listening for that HT+40!
