Hi Steve,

There are 2 considerations.  First is that the plug in type can be used with 
other Ac/DC sets in your collection if it meets the load requirements. The 
down side is that you have to plug it into the wall outlet when you want to use 
the load, or just let it sit there drawing minimal current and turn the set on 
normally.

With the secone method of hardwiring it into the S-38 and using the normal 
switch to turn on the primary power also makes sense in that the tranny is not 
sitting there idling while the s-38 is not in use.  The downer here is that it 
can only be used in the S-38 and if you have other AC/DC sets you want 
isolated, you need more transformers.
