Perhaps they're different variants. Or it could be the same reason
that one guy has 6 (at last count) KW-1s, others have multiple
S-Lines, etc: it's collecting, or their version of it. Maybe there is
something appealing about saying "I have more than you do". Along the
lines of "Mine's bigger".

You might be able to trade off your SX-42 for one if it's really
clean. The 28 is perhaps the best known, best looking 'real radio' out
there. Sounds nice, too. Most SX-28* owners love them and don't care
to part with them. Clean examples seem to be holding their own pretty
well on ebay, even increasing a bit.

Maybe some collector has a duplicate?
